And since these people are instructors, you might be tempted to believe them. “People can’t learn online,” they will tell you. You do NOT get “legitimate” CPR online, although a portion may be completed before a handson class. The idea that you can learn a handson skill without practicing it is ludicrous at best. BTW the majority of CPR advertisements may get you to classes that are ok regarding CPR but will NOT work as requirements for employment. The regulating bodies for CPR certification, including the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross, do not recognize any online certification as legal. If an employer or profession in an unregulated field requires a CPR certification, the employer has the ability to accept any CPR certification they deem acceptable, including online certifications. Other industries related to healthcare cannot use online certification training. There are many nationally accredited BLS, CPR and First Aid coursers that are acceptable alternatives to the AHA and based on their guidelines.
