This article documents the history of Rochester, New York, in western New York State.Settlement began in the late 18th century, and the city flourished with the opening of the Erie Canal.It became a major manufacturing center, and attracted many Italians, Germans, Irish and other immigrants, as well as a dominant group of Yankees of New England origin.

The city includes the villages of East Rochester, Gonic, and North Rochester.Rochester is home to Skyhaven Airport The Rochester Genealogical Society is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping our members improve their research skills and broaden their enjoyment of family history. Our regular monthly meetings feature two presentations by experienced genealogists.
